Fixate Meal Plan & Grocery List

I love it when you're lying in bed and you hear this.....

THOMP.... Bang......, then feet coming down the hall.

Ahhhh a new day and the weekend is finally here!

Kids are up bright and early this AM, so we've had a nice breaky together.  The kids had pancakes of course, Saturday Morning tradition.  Then they are off watching some cartoons while my husband and I are sipping our coffee and talking about what's coming up this next week.  No sooner has one week ended that we are going over our schedules for the next.

I always and consistently meal plan each weekend to organize our meals and food for the following week.  This has just become a natural habit and it truly does get easier and faster each week.
Dedicating that time prevents me from slipping back into old habits and like running out to grab something quick and easy and usually not the healthiest choice.  I knew if I wanted and needed my eating habits to change, I needed to DO something different and that change was doing a meal plan and being really prepared.

We're also getting into hockey season too so we'll probably be taking advantage of our crock pot more often as well.

Last week I had posted a meal plan and grocery list and tried some new recipes from the Fixate Cook book.

I really enjoyed these recipes.  They were QUICK!  Easy, simple, but tasty !  Our kids enjoyed most of the meals as well, if it was heavy on the veggies then I just added an extra side they enjoy.  We never stop offering this good food to them.  Even if they turn it down one night, they may suddenly enjoy it more the next.  Keep trying and keep offering.

Below is my meal plan for the next week.  Feel free to print it off as well.  I have included the container portions so if there is something you want to switch up, just follow your 21 Day Fix nutrition guide and swap out that food for another on the container list.  If you would like this emailed to you in a different file format please email me at jennweeebs@hotmail.com

Below are the grocery items needed to make the above meals.  If you followed this last week, there may be several items you already have in your kitchen.  Just go through and cross off anything you've already got on hand.

5 People You Need to Succeed

The People You Need to Succeed!

We all have different people and friends in our lives from over the years and past experiences we've had.

All of us have different values and views on everything in life.  But that's what makes your circle of friends so valuable.  They can give you different perspectives of things in your life.  You will have different experiences and fun times together, and also help support you in different ways in your life.

How does this relate to weight loss and your journey?

It is because you definitely going to need to surround yourself with those people that are going to support this transition.  People that understand your goals and why you are doing this for yourself so they can help support your decisions.  There are going to be hard days when you are going to need to hear from a cheerleader to keep going.  You are going to need to have those conversations with "the success story" to remind you that if they can do this, so can YOU!  There are friends you are going to want to have around to motivate you, and help you stay on track.

I'm going to be honest here too and tell you there are people that are not going to understand why you are doing this, why you have all of a sudden turned into a health nut.  They are going to wonder why you have taken your health so seriously, and why can't you go out for dessert night any more.  Maybe some of those people you thought were going to be your biggest supporters end up not really supporting you at all.  I want you to know not to take that personally at all.  You are just in a different mindset then they are at the moment and that's completely okay too.  We all have different paths and directions and things that are important to us at different times in our lives.  If you really feel hurt about it, take a listen to Chalene Johnson's podcast -->  "Why Your Friends and Family May not Support You".  Just keep your eyes on what YOU truly want and what makes you happiest.

This idea of the * 5 People You Need to Succeed was taken from a business article I was reading last week.  These are the people they suggest to have in your life, not only with weight loss, but maybe your starting up a business, or taking on a new hobby.  Going through a big transition and having these people there to help and support you can make the transition go smoother.

While you're reading this, think of the people in your life who would fit these descriptions:

THE CONNECTOR -- > This is the person who knows everyone.  They have thousands of Facebook friends, who are real actual friends (not random strangers they don't actually know in person), and everyone knows who they are.
The connector is well liked and always willing to connect the people they know with each other.

THE CHEERLEADER --> The cheerleader thinks everything you do is awesome, and is always encouraging you to do more of what you want to do.  You want to start a business, go back to school, invent something to end world hunger?  The cheerleader is sure you can do it.

THE REALIST --> Cheerleaders are great.  But your realist will let you know if you have a really bad idea and they will be your sounding board.  The realist is not a pessimist.  The realist can also help you come up with realistic ways to implement your ideas.

THE IDEA GENERATOR --> The friend with the who has an endless fountain of creative energy.  They have many ideas for other people as they do for themselves.  They never run out and is always willing to share.  No, they may not all be great ideas and some are crazy, but many are great, and his enthusiasm is infectious.  Just being around them gives you ideas.  Everyone should seek out someone like this to have around when your own idea is tapped.

THE SUCCESS STORY -->  The success story is the person who is living their dream, whether that turned out to be the original dream they've been chasing all their lives, or some variation thereupon.  I've got many of these in my life and everyone of them is an inspiration

So where do you find these like minded people?  The people that are going to help you succeed ?
They are everywhere, you just have to have an open mind of where they could be hiding.

They are your:

  • Friends
  • Family
  • Neighbours
  • Co-workers
  • Extended family
  • people in your fitness classes
  • people in your current challenge group
  • friends of friends you meet in passing or at events

Who do you keep close?
Who can you think of that is in your life that fit these different descriptions ?

September Challenge Group

I cannot believe we are in mid-August already!
Can you believe back to school is just around the corner?
Have you taken your kids out to get their back to school clothes and shoes and backpacks etc.
Are they excited to go back or dragging their heels?

September will be here before we know it and that means the kiddos are back in school, and the fall activities will be starting up.  It means earlier bedtimes and the end of sleeping in (if your kids do that, ours certainly do not) during the week.

For our family, it means that our oldest is entering grade 1.  Our middle is heading to junior kindergarten, and our youngest will wonder where the heck everybody went!
It means hockey season starts up again.  Skating lessons, swimming lessons and lots of our evenings will be on the go!

Even through things ramp up and get busier, we get back into a steady routine and I'm actually looking forward to that.  Not sure how your kids are but ours needs that routine and structure and they need to know what they can expect each day.  Their sleep is all off kilter right now because of the long summer days so we're very much looking forward to September arriving!

So as the kids prepare to go back to their school year routine, why not get yourself back into YOUR routine.  A schedule and a plan to get back to you.  Have all those summer treats, ice cream, BBQ's and fun fancy drinks caught up with you ?

There are a couple ways I can help you this September
Jump into one of my challenge groups !
I have two different ones to offer you

You may or may not have noticed that I offer these challenge groups monthly.  I advertise them on Facebook, my blog here, or on Instagram. Maybe I have even reached out to you in the past to see if you would be interested in joining me one month.

First, what is this challenge group, and how can it benefit you?

A little background on this, maybe you've been following my blog or watching me a bit on Facebook, you may be curious and maybe a bit of you is wanting some help.  Maybe you are needing a change or you are looking for support and accountability.  Or maybe in the back of your mind you are really sick of being tired, and ready to start up a new healthy lifestyle. Maybe the idea of working out at home interests you because its so much easier to fit into your day if you're busy and can't get to the gym. And you probably like that all these programs from Beach Body come with a nutrition plan that works right along with it. Because we all know that weight loss is the two working together, exercise AND nutrition

So that is exactly what Beach Body has done. Beach body is a well known company that creates fitness and nutrition programs you can do in the comfort of your own home. These are proven programs that WORK and thousands of people have gotten results. People that have committed to the programs and have gotten results usually become coaches because they know the products work and they may know people that could benefit from a program. They want to pay it forward and share their journey with others and inspire others to start their own journey to a better lifestyle.

So that's what I decided to do. I loved the 21 Day fix program so much I wanted to tell the world! I lost 35 pounds from drinking Shakology and committing to the 21 day fix program. I have done other programs throughout the year, P90X3, PiYo, Insanity, but 21 Day Fix has been my favourite because of the simplified and easy nutrition plan. That was the area I struggled with the most.

As a coach, I can help you pick a program that is best for you and your needs and your fitness level. I want to know what you've done in the past that hasn't worked. I want to know what you're struggling with. I want to know what your dream goal is. If you are looking for accountability and someone to check in with each day, to help stay on track with you, to support you and to cheer you on, that's what I can do for you. We will talk about all these things so I can really get to know you and your goals. Then we will set you up with a program that best suits you and your goals.

We will set you up with Shakeology which is a nutrient dense drink that you will have daily, and it's going to be that vitamin each day to get your body full of all the nutrients you need to really kick start you to feel great not sluggish, and to accelerate your results. It's going to be that quick meal on the go, or if you like chocolate (like me) it's going to be your craving stopper. Your go-to when you're craving something.  It feels like a treat, except, it's going to be working FOR you toward your goals.

A challenge group is held on Facebook, in a closed and private group, so it's just us that can see everything. There, you will meet others that also will be starting off their program and we'll become a little fit family for you. We will begin with a prep week to set goals, take before photos and measurements, to talk about mindset and to help everyone with meal planning and prep. Each day of the challenge your going to check in and there will be a post from me or your coach and we will give you nutrition tips, recipes, fitness tips, motivational posts. We will also talk about our struggles or our wins each day.
Right now it's back to school time, so we'll be talking about how to organize yourself and manage everything with the kids, going here there and everywhere if your a busy mom. That is what a challenge group is all about. Working with others in a group sharing our tips, tools, and progress in a supportive setting.
You will never be alone in this.

I truly believe that success comes from three things – nutrition, exercise and Support. That support element, you will get when you check in each and every day in our challenge group.  To help you stay accountable and to guide you. No, we cannot do the work for you, and we are not fitness experts. We are just people that have been through this and been where you are and wanted a change too. We've had our transformations, we know what it takes, we're walking proof the products work, and we'll help you every step of the way.

Here are the two groups I can
offer you this Fall:

This is a 30 day Challenge group.  This is for anyone that is wanting and needing a BIG change.  This is the group you'll want to be in if you'd like to have more energy, set some new daily healthy habits, have more confidence being in your own skin, and to fit into your old pair of jeans again.  The pair that have been sitting in your closet for awhile.  One day you'll fit into them again.  The time could be now if you're ready!

For the Fabulous Fit Fall Challenge I will have the pleasure of being your coach and help you through the next 30 days with a program of your choice.
You will receive a nutrition program, nutrient dense meal replacement shake to have once a day for the duration of the challenge, and you will receive a DVD program that you can do in the comfort and convenience of your own home, when it fits into YOUR schedule.  I will work with you one on one with your nutrition plan.  You will also have access to our Facebook Challenge Group of course, to help you stay on track.

I cannot do the work for you, but if you are serious about needing the change and can commit fully with a program for the next 30 days, you will lose weight and inches, and you will have more self confidence then when you started.  I have been through this myself and have lost 35 pounds and been able to maintain that, by implementing a few daily habits.  I can show you how you CAN fit this into your day.  I will show you the tricks that have helped me stay on track.

I have lost 35 pound on the 21 Day fix and maintained
these results because it was a lifestyle change, and one I could
stick to because of the support each and every day
from a challenge group

If you have been thinking of getting started all summer but you haven't had the time and life has been to busy, now is your chance to get back into a routine and on a schedule for yourself too.
If you think you are all in,  and ready for a BIG change, I would love to speak with you further.  I can help you choose an exercise and nutrition plan that is right for you and your fitness level.  Please fill out this application and I will get back to you within 48 hours.

Another group I have to offer next month is :

If you are just looking to slowly incorporate more activity and exercise into your life why don't you join me for the Fit Bit Challenge!  We will be starting on Sept 15th and it will run for 10 days.

This challenge will be set up on Facebook in a private group and you can really get a feel for how these groups are run and see what it can do for you without committing to a program just yet.  We will still check in daily with our steps and food for the day.   Whatever fitness level you are at, we will be cheering each other on so that by the end of the 10 days you can say that you have improved your lifestyle from the week prior.  Who knows where it will take you!
We will be working up to the ideal number of steps a day for your age and activity level.
This will be a fun and supportive environment. Think of those beautiful autumn nights you can be out walking with your family or friends. I will also be providing you with a meal plan.

If you're feeling sluggish, or spending too much time on the computer or in front of a TV, this would be ideal for you!  Group will be open to 5 people and if you're interested please fill out this application and I will get back to you in 48 hours to set you up.

So as you get your kids prepared for their big First day of School, remember to take a little time for you too. Even if it's just a leisurely walk in the evening.  I wish all your kids good luck this new school year.  Take lots of photos and enjoy these moments!

Meal Plan, Grocery List, and Shopping Tips!

Good morning guys!

I set aside some time this morning to sit down and meal plan for the next week going forward.  We've got a busy day today but I always commit to making a meal plan each weekend for the week forward.  Maybe you have a busy weekend as well, I'd like to provide you with a meal plan you can try and even the shopping list you can print off, cross off the items from the list that you already have in your house, and just run to the store.

I've been getting bored with the same old foods, and dinners and snacks.  So this week I took a lot of the recipes from the new FixATE cookbook that just came out.  It's full of 21 Day Fix approved meals and recipes, drinks AND desserts. It even includes the container breakdown for you, so that made this week's planning SUPER easy!  If you'd like to learn more about this cookbook and how you can get yours please see details below.

I did repeat some of the lunches and snacks because I really need to keep things simple during our busy weeks.  If your not into repeating meals, the container breakdown is there for you so you can easily swap out a meal and switch in a different food to make up a new meal.

YOU CAN DO THIS!

SHOPPING LIST

  • goat cheese (optional)
  • greek yogurt

  • 1 yellow zucchini
  • 1 bunch kale

  • 5 carrots sliced

  • avocado
  • bananas
  • 2 cucumbers
  • apple
  • broccoli
  • raspberries
  • 1 bunch of romaine lettuce
  • 3 sweet potatoes, chopped
MEATS
  • 6 chicken breasts
  • 2 lbs lean ground turkey
  • 1 package of sliced steak pieces
  • pork tenderloin
SPICES
  • ground chili powder
  • oregano

  • whole wheat English muffins
  • natural peanut butter
  • 4 cups low sodium chicken broth, (we use epicure mix and water)
  • 1 package whole wheat pasta (penne, rotini, shells, or farfalle)

If you are a mom and have a family to feed as well, just add extra quantities of the veggies and fruits and yogurts, meats etc.  I also add more things in like their cereal, milk, cheese, crackers, deli meats etc. the stuff that they eat during the week.

Also if you have a Costco membership, some of the produce and meats and dairy on this list you can buy in bulk, and you'll have leftovers to save for the following week

You can be proud too, that most of the items on this list you find around the perimeter of the grocery store.  This is the best place to shop -- > around the outside of the store.  As soon as you get into the middle isles, you're moving into less desirable and processed foods.  These are okay once and awhile but if you are really looking to trim down and feel your best, stick to the natural foods along the perimeter.  Take a look at your checkout belt of food when your at the cashier.  Is full of fresh foods and lean meats?  Or is it full of foods in a box?   These are just things to be cautious of.  The items at the check out are the ones that are going to fuel you and the ones you are going to put into your body for the week.  Feel great that it's full of fresh, natural foods and you're going to be taking care of your body!

Here are some grocery shopping tips:
  1. Make a weekly menu - plan those meals so you know exactly what you are going to need for food and make your week successful
  2. Make a list - go over your meal plan and make a list of those foods that you need.  This helps to avoid overspending and waste of food by the end of the week
  3. Go to the store first thing in the morning - Everything is fully stocked, no traffic in the isles, and you can get your shopping done faster!
  4. Bring your own bags - stores are charging for bags now and we can also cut down on plastic waste that is so damaging to our environment if we bring our reusable bags.  I love my big thirty one totes and Costco bags for this.  I just keep them in the van at all times so I always have them with me
  5. Eat before you go -- avoid spur of the moment cravings by eating before you go.  Avoid all those temptations and unnecessary spending on junk.
  6. Go alone - I learned this the hard way.  when I've got my kids with me (or husband) I get distracted and I start accumulating things in the cart that I normally wouldn't have bought(candy, husbands chips etc)  If your a mom, embrace this quiet time, even bring some headphones and listen to some Taylor Swift.  Sometimes music can make this mundane task more enjoyable.

I hope this post has been helpful.  Share it if you want to save it for later, or share with someone that may find this helpful too.

Message me if you plan to follow the food plan for this week so we can keep each other accountable.

If you have any questions regarding the meal plan, recipes or the Fixate cookbook and how to get one please email me at jennweeebs@hotmail.com

Have a wonderful and healthy week :)

Color Vibe 5 Km

Color Vibe 5KM - 2015

Wow what a HOT HOT weekend!
But a great one!
Sunday morning we participated in the Color Vibe 5km run.
This run was purely for entertainment purposes.

It was great to catch up with old and new friends this weekend as we had organized a small team to go all together to this event.

There were many families that had participated in this with their children.  It was fun to see all the kids playing with the powdered colour and having the time of their life getting all crazy and messy! I'm thinking next year we need to get our kids into this I think they would love it!  Especially with our 6 year old!  Kids were FREE to participate!

It was nice to have just a casual run alongside friends, kids and families.  It was not a hard course, not many hills at all but you're going to want to make sure that your kids can go that distance or bring a stroller or wagon, there were lots of them there.

So are you curious as to what is the colour made out of???
All it is corn starch and dye.  It is non-toxic and 100% safe and biodegradable. It is recommended that you wear sunglasses to keep the powder out of your eyes, and lucky enough they give them to you.

The colour WILL completely come off of your skin and shoes and clothes when washing.  Don't worry you won't be dyed like a rainbow all week at work.

Thank you girls for a FUN time!!

This is the third year my husband and I have done this run.  I like participating in it each year because it's sort of the beginnings of my journey.

Three years ago, after our last child was born, I found my passion for running.

I think running was a way for me to cope with the demands of a new baby, relieve some stress, and to have a little quiet, zone out mommy time for myself.
I found a couch to 5KM app on my iphone and focused on working through it.  I admired people that could just go out and go for a run.  Don't they look so graceful and happy and peaceful?  But here I was huffing and puffing away and couldn't even make it through 30 seconds of straight running without getting a tomato face and jello legs.

But I just followed that couch to 5 km running program.
I started right from the very beginning of just walking 2 minutes and running 30 seconds, etc.  And like I said, 30 seconds was HARD!!  It was all I could do.  I wondered HOW do people run for 30-60 minutes straight?  Running those 30 seconds and getting through just the first day felt like a huge accomplishment.  So next was a rest day, and the day after that I tried it again.  The next day was run 60 seconds, walk for a minute and a half.  I pushed myself through that.  Had a rest day.  I just worked at it week by week, following that program and slowly built up my running time.

After the summer of plugging away with this running program, I signed up my husband and I for the 5km Color Me RAD.  After working hard all summer, I wanted to finish it off with a fun run.  I remember being so nervous.
They were going to throw WHAT at us ????
We're going to get MESSY???
But we had a BLAST!!!

I remember at the time, coming up on the 4 km mark, 1 km to go and my husband was getting tired.  I was so full of adrenaline that I could keep going to the finish.  He told me to go ahead so I could finish the whole run without stopping.
It felt amazing to accomplish something out of my element (crazy fun colour everywhere) and finish my first ever 5km.

So what did we do??  We signed up again the following year and did that together again.

aaaaaaaaand then again this year.

It's been nice to reflect and to remember how far we've both come along and that we did this together.  I'm so grateful for a husband that has supported me with this.

Color Runs
Top Left - Our very 1st Color Me RAD 2013
Bottom Left - 2nd Colour Me RAD 2014
Right - Color Vibe 2015

If you have ever been curious about running I really encourage you to try a couch to 5km program.
Yes you'll feel like you're dying that first week.  But just like with anything, the more you do it, the better you get.  Week by week it's amazing how you get better, there is noticeable difference in the way you feel week to week.

High Five baby!!
Have you ever done a Colour Run before?  How did you like it?
Have you recently starting running?  How is it going?
I'd love to hear from you!

Mudderella

MUDDERELLA
I wanted to take some time and write about the amazing experience we had at Mudderella this year.
Haven't heard of Mudderella before?
Check out this video for a glimpse of what it's about.

It is a world class, 5-7 mile long, muddy obstacle course.  Designed by women and run by women.  It featured 14 obstacles with some pretty fun names like:
  • Skinny Jeans
  • I Got Your Back
  • Hay Girl Hay
  • Down to the Wire
  • Ain't no Mountain High
  • Wheels in Motion
  • Dirty Downward Dog
  • Break the glass Ceiling
  • Hat Trick
This is totally out of my element.  Maybe you're like me, I'm a mom of three, with a full time office job, and here is a crazy event of crawling through the mud and water.  Sound like fun?
Honestly it kinda-sorta did, am I weird??   Maybe I don't get out much but I loved this idea of doing something that you totally wouldn't normally do and the idea of helping other people through an obstacle course and showing some GIRL POWER!

The theme to Mudderella is to "Own Your Strong"
Empowering women to take pride in their strength.  To do something they may not think they could do.  To step out of the grind of day to day life, work, kids, grocery shopping, and prove to yourself you are so much stronger than you think.

This truly was an event about team work, encouraging others, and just stepping outside of your comfort zone.  I think it's safe to say we all gained a little more confidence and realized that we CAN do anything we set our mind too.  Even crawl in mud!  We all just had a really uplifting and motivating morning doing this all together.

The whole team felt Mudderella ran so smoothly!  Probably because it was run by women right ?  ;)

They had a booth to get decked out in tats and ribbons.  They had showers at the end of the course so you could wash off your shoes, feet, clothes, hair, face, arms, legs. etc. (because you always wonder if you're going to have to drive home as a stinky muddy mess in your car right?

They had a change tent so you could get out of the muddy clothes and into your clean ones.

They had booths for free stuff AND they had a FREE celebratory beer waiting for you after you completed the course.  I kept checking throughout the morning to make sure I still had my freebie beer bracelet on!  Didn't want to lose that!

After completing the course you also earned a Mudderella headband and T-shirt to remember the event.

I would highly recommend anyone to do something like this.  Just out of your comfort zone a bit.  You can see that you really are able to do anything you set your mind to.

Thanks ladies for a fantastic day and great memories!

"Mudderella was such an empowering event that helped me prove to myself that I am stronger then I think I am. I was surrounded buy a great group of woman who all worked along side me to get through and obstacles, and encouraged me to keep going. We all had each others backs though the entire course and it was very motivating. I definitely gained more self confidence from this event and took some new friendships and stronger existing friendships away from it as well. My favourite obstacle was the giant slip n' slide. It was such a rush, so much fun! I can't wait to do it again next year!"  -- Rebecca Swartz

"The Mudderella experience was something that I am so excited and proud to say I completed.  I wanted to commit to finishing all obstacles and I did it!  Setting a goal for myself and seeing it all the way through, (even when I didn't want to train or do one of the obstacles that were way outside my comfort zone) is an amazing feeling !  "   -- Jody Weiss

"Mudderella was so awesome. The atmosphere was full of energy with so many women out to have a great time together. I showed myself I was stronger than I thought and had fun doing it. I will definitely be back next year"  -- Pam Law

"I'm glad I took part in Mudderella because so often women lack confidence in themselves and miss out on fun and cool opportunities because of fear of the unknown. Mudderella showed me many things. Women being kind and supportive to one another instead of judging. Women challenging themselves - their minds and bodies. Women trying something new outside of their comfort zone. Women digging deep and realizing that they could conquer their fears. Women having fun during fitness. Sure my legs were a bit sore from the Bingaman's hills, but aside from that, the gain of the amazing experience was well worth it."
 -- Amy Ballantyne

"The Mudderella event was great. All of the obstacles were challenging but still easy enough to complete. There was nothing a little mind over matter couldn't beat. Looking back its amazing to know we all ran the 9km race with obstacles. The atmosphere was so supportive with other women cheering everyone on and helping people along the way. I look forward to doing it again next year. "  -- Nikki Cee

Chicken Hash

This recipe is from the WHOLE30 cookbook
It serves 2 and takes about 30 minutes to make

You'll Need:

coconut oil
3 chicken breasts (or 1 pound of chicken thighs cut into 1 inch dice)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 sweet potato, peeled and grated
1 granny smith apple, cored, peeled and diced (really any kind of apple will do, whatever you have on hand)
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 cup apple dicer
1 generous handfuls arugula or baby spinach

Serve with a side veggie for a balanced meal

In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat.  One it's hot add the chicken and season with the salt and pepper.  Cook until the chicken is browned and cooked thoroughly.  Add the walnuts and cook until the chicken is browned and walnuts are toasted.  Add the sweet potato, apple, and red pepper flakes and cook, stirring often until everything is cooked through.
Add the apple cider and mix all the ingredients together, scraping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to bring up any tasty bit.  Add the arugula or spinach and cook for another 30 seconds., gently stirring to wilt the leaves.  Serve immediately.

You can use the leftovers and spoon onto a bed of fresh salad for lunch the next day.  Add some more apple vinegar and oil dressing and add some diced avocado for an amazing and filling lunch salad.
