DAY #30 RESULTS

Day #30 RESULTS

We DID it!!!
We have officially hit day 30 of this incredible program!!  We are at the half way point!

This program has been fun some days, challenging the next.
The variety in these workouts is what keeps me excited each and every day to push play!

The workouts are challenging but then SO rewarding when its done.  It makes me feel so great that I've completed it and accomplished something right off the top in the morning

Lets talk nutrition

I have NOT had a glass of wine in 30 days! This was the part I thought I would miss the most.  We have 3 kids, so a mama NEEDS her wine.  Or so I thought.
It's sort of my routine on a Friday night to relax after a long week with a glass of wine. So the first week was SUPER hard, I thought about it all day and during Friday night too how much I wanted a glass.  But you know what, after that first weekend, I didn't miss it as much the next.

I meal planned and prepped food.  I stuck to 2 yellow containers, but I did have a week where I snuck in some jubejubes.  (darn Costco!!!)
After seeing the results,  I'm just that much more pumped to focus on the nutrition just that much more.

What can SUPER FOODS do for me?

I recently stumbled up on this article outlining some super food ingredients and surprising enough, I actually recognized some of the ingredients because they were ingredients listed on my Shakeology bag.  These weren't crazy words that I couldn't pronounce either.  They were real, wholesome ingredients.

But why are these ingredients important and what can they do for you?  You keep hearing about all the stuff in Shakeology, it has 70+ ingredients, selected from around the world, grown in the fertile soils of remote regions of the earth. What is all this stuff?

Maybe you don’t really care what it is …. you just trust the experts. Or maybe you want to know each and every ingredient and what it’s there for.  If that’s you, this article is for you!  I was curious too so I did some research.

Why do I choose to add this into my diet each and every day for the past year and a half now?  Well, I can share that when I'm drinking my chocolate Shakeology consistently and regularly, I am feeling my best.  I have more energy and don't feel slumpy.  I preform my best in my workouts.  My cravings diminish because my body isn't craving vital nutrients anymore, and my skin and hair look clearer and healthier.

At first I drank Shakeology to help me lose weight.  It helped immensely to curb my cravings and give me a quick and healthy meal on the go instead of grabbing fast food.  Now I choose to continue drinking it for optimum health and to feel my best.  Don't get me wrong, people CAN lose weight without the aid of Shakeology.  But what usually ends up happening is people start seeing the benefits of putting quality food and ingredients into their bodies and seeing how much better they feel.  Their mindset starts to change and they start to look at food in a different way.  They see how important it is to invest in their health.  This is what had happened to me too.  Quality food and ingredients have become that much more important to me.

So what can these ingredients do for you?
What is a Goji Berry and Sacha Inchi??

Check out the synopsis of each ingredient in your little scoop of Shakeology and the benefits below.

CAMU-CAMU — Camu-camu is a powerful antioxidant contains more vitamin C than any other plant in the world (30 to 60 times more than an orange)! The phytochemical in camu camu are highly effective in curbing the effects of the herpes virus; in fact, on a list of plants with anti-herpetic compounds, camu camu takes the highest honours as most potent. It is effective against depression, and has even been used to wean users off dangerous anti-depressive medications (under medical supervision, of course.) Alternative medical practitioners have also been using it to combat attention deficit disorder. SPROUTED QUINOA — Quinoa was once called “the gold of the Incas” for increasing the stamina of Incan warriors. The protein this seed supplies has all nine essential amino acids. These proteins are required by the body as building blocks for muscle. Quinoa is a good source of dietary fiber (to help ease elimination), magnesium (to rid your body of dangerous disease causing substances), phosphorous, folate and iron.

WHEY PROTEIN — Whey protein provides the body with the perfect amino acid profile for muscle building, strength and recovery. Also works as an antioxidant to boost the body’s immune system. Scientific studies have shown that regular supplementation with whey protein promotes a strong immune system.

ACEROLA CHERRY — Acerola Cherry has one of the highest concentrations per gram of natural vitamin C in any fruit. Rich in vitamin A, magnesium, niacin, potassium, thiamine, iron and calcium. Traditional healers used the leaves to fight dysentery and diarrhea and liver issues, while the fruit was used for the treatment of colds and infections.

BILBERRY — Bilberry is a deep blue fruit, bilberry is high in antioxidant-rich flavanoid compounds called anthocyanidins, which have been shown to play a supporting role in maintaining good cardiovascular health and a strong immune system. Bilberries are also linked to eye health, in particular the possibility of slowing or reversing the effects of macular degeneration. Helpful for supporting healthy blood sugar levels, bilberry is also used for its beneficial effects in improving blood circulation, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, and relief for nausea and indigestion. Bilberries are also known to be helpful for joint health, kidney and urinary tract health, menstrual cramps and diarrhea.

GRAPE SEED EXTRACT — Grape seed extract is known as the secret anti-aging ingredient, this ingredient improves the elasticity of the skin, promotes healthy arteries and is beneficial for the eyes too!

BLUEBERRY — Blueberries are a good source of vitamins and dietary fiber, blueberries are believed to help reduce eyestrain and improve night vision. Blueberries are also high in the phytochemical resveratol, which has been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

REISHI MUSHROOM — Reishi is used as a tonic to help increase energy, improve digestion and sleep, strengthen resistance to disease, and regulate the immune system. It is widely used to improve the cardiovascular system, lower HDL (the ‘bad’ cholesterol), and reduce excess fatty acids. Also, Reishi has been shown to prevent and treat hardening of the arteries, angina, and shortness of breath associated with coronary heart disease. Japanese doctors routinely prescribe Reishi for memory loss, insomnia, hyperlipidemia, chronic bronchitis, and a whole range of degenerative diseases of the elderly, including disorders associated with senility. There is some evidence to suggest that Reishi can help treat altitude sickness and chronic hepatitis B. It has also been used in chemotherapy and HIV support treatments.

ROSE HIPS — Rose Hips are useful in the treatment of influenza-like infections, diarrhea, and various urinary tract disorders, shown to be useful in the treatment of patients suffering from knee or hip osteoarthritis.

GINGKO POWDER(LEAF) — Used to enhance a clear mind and improve the power of concentration, has been used to treat Alzheimer’s Disease, depression, impotence, memory, cognitive abilities, circulation problems and more!

APPLE PECTIN — Apple pectin is helpful in removing cholesterol out of the intestines and delaying glucose absorption. Pectin is one of the compounds that acts as a substrate for the production of short chain fatty acids that help maintain a healthy colonic mucosa. As a detoxifier, it is used to remove harmful metals and toxins. Acts as an antioxidant, protecting against the damaging LDL cholesterol found in the bloodstream.

GREEN TEA (DECAFFEINATED) — Green tea’s antioxidants, called catechins, scavenge for free radicals that can damage DNA and contribute to cancer, blood clots, and atherosclerosis. Its potential to fight cancer and heart disease — has been more than intriguing, as have limited studies about green tea’s role in lowering cholesterol, burning fat, preventing diabetes and stroke, and staving off dementia.

MACA ROOT — Maca Root is a nontoxic stabilizer is known to increase energy, endurance, physical strength, and libido. The ancient Incan warrior soldiers would consume this precious root before battle to make them fiercely strong, and then would be prohibited from taking it once into the city so the women would be protected from their heightened sexual appetite. Yikes! No wonder this fabulous superfood dons the nickname, “Andes Aphrodisiac”!

POMEGRANATE — Pomegranate promotes optimal blood flow to the heart. It has also shown to lessen the amount of plaque in the arteries which results in smooth blood flow and reduction in disease. Lastly it also helps to raise much needed levels of cholesterol whiling helping to lower bad cholesterol that can cause heart attacks. Pomegranate benefits your body as a whole because your body contains plenty of unstable molecules that can damage your DNA and your cells. This type of damage often leads to other diseases such as stroke and Alzheimer’s. The pomegranate benefits these areas by using its antioxidant powers to fight off the unstable molecules thereby preventing these diseases. Therefore when you eat pomegranates that contain antioxidants such as polypenols and tannins you are going to live a much healthier life and reduce your chance at catching a fatal disease such as cancer or a heart attack.

BARLEY GRASS — Barley grass is the only vegetation on the earth that can supply sole nutritional support from birth to old age. Barley grass is very high in organic sodium, which dissolves calcium deposited on the joints and also replenishes organic sodium in the lining of the stomach. This aids digestion by improving the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. People with arthritis have used celery juice for years because of the organic sodium it contains (28mg per 100grms), but compare this to the amount of organic sodium in barley grass (775mg per 100 grams)! When barley leaves are 12-14 inches high, they contain all the vitamins, minerals, and proteins necessary for the human diet, plus chlorophyll (a natural detoxifier that rids the intestines of stored toxins). MHC Week #1 Complete - Prep for Week #2

Week # 1 is in the books and I am loving this program so far

It is challenging.  It has different exercises that I haven't done before, and it really pushes me more everyday.  Eating this past week has been on PAR, which I'm SO proud about.  Day #1 - 3 were a little bit tough to get through the cravings and such but then it got easier as the week went on.  Even over the weekend when I tend to get a little relaxed I kept looking at that meal plan I had made and I'm sticking to it.

The hubby and I even went out for a date night on Saturday and I'm happy to say I stuck with the best choices then as well.   I had soup and salad and a coffee. No wine (this was a TOUGH one to say no too, because we don't go out much together so when we do we REALLY enjoy ourselves and split a bottle)  and no dessert.  We also went to a movie and I had one or two kernels of popcorn but felt it really wasn't worth it to eat any more than that as we just had our meals.  Funny how extra calories can just sneak in there when you aren't focused on it.  I stuck with my water and thought about how my mindset had changed this past week.  It was getting easier and easier to say no to those things that usually derail me.  I didn't want all the hard work from the week to be a waste of effort or time.  I really want to see what this program can do when followed as written.

There is something so fun and exciting about starting a new workout program. I had no idea what the workouts would be like at all.  I didn't know what to expect, so it was exciting to put the day's scheduled workout DVD in one just go with it.  These workouts ranged from 25-45 minutes, so it was really easy to fit into a busy day.

Here was the schedule for Week #1 Workouts.
Each day I did also added in either Hammer or Chisel 10 min Ab Fix

MONDAY - Chisel Balancea total-body workout creating stabilization, muscular endurance, and core strength

TUESDAY - Hammer Plyometrics -  a jump training workout that uses your entire body to create force, speed and power

WEDNESDAY - ISO Strength Chisel - an intense resistance workout using isometric holds and flexibility to increase strength

THURSDAY - day off - REALLY APPRECIATED as the muscle soreness was setting in

FRIDAY -  ISO Speed Hammer - a temp training workout that uses speed and isometric holds to create strength and grow muscle

SATURDAY - Chisel endurance - increases muscular endurance and strength in this time-under-tension workout.

SUNDAY - Total Body Hammer - a hypertrophy workout focused on pyramid-style sets to maximize strength and muscle growth

Going into week #2 of this program, I know what to expect.  I know what the workouts are like and I know it will get easier each week as I get stronger.  I'm getting more comfortable with making the meal plans each week, which I've just finished up so I KNOW I'm going to be fully prepared for week #2.  I can't tell you how important this has been for me when wanting to keep up and follow with a program properly.

Here is the link to Week #2 Meal Plan if you need some help with figuring out food this week.  If you don't like the food choices there (because not everyone likes the same foods), feel free to swap out one of the container food choices and replace it with something else on the list of foods from the nutrition guide.  This week's meal plan I have planned some new recipes from the Fixate Cookbook as well as in the Hammer and Chisel nutrition guide just to add some new things into the plan.

ALRIGHT, I'm ready for week #2.  Are you ready??

If you think you'd like to participate in a challenge in the future, it really is simple.

I help you pick a program that is right for you, your fitness level, goals, and lifestyle.  I help you meal plan, and also support you along the way in an online support group with others also working through their program.  We are all better together.  The more we share and support and keep each other accountable, the more success we all have, I truly believe that.

If you are interested in hearing more, please follow the link to a quick online survey and I will contact you within 24-48 hours.  You can also get a hold of me on Facebook and message me there as well.

Have a healthy and happy week everyone!

Egg & Vegetable Frittata

This breakfast recipe was a life saver this week.
I made two bathes (one for my hubby and one for myself)  And it was quick and easy to cut a piece, and heat up in the morning.

If you are following the 21 Day Fix or Hammer and Chisel meal plan, this would count as a:
GREEN
RED
container

Here's what you'll need:
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 medium leek, thinkly sliced
  • 2 medium zucchini, chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 bag (6 oz) fresh baby spinach, chopped
  • 12 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut or almond milk
  • fresh parsley (optional)
Here's how to make your veggie frittata:
  1. Preheat oven to 400*
  2. Heat oil in 12 inch non-stick oven safe skillet over medium -high heat
  3. Add leek, zucchini, and bell pepper; cook, stirring frequently for 4-5 minutes, or until soft
  4. Add spinach; cook, stirring frequently for 3-4 minutes, or until spinach is wilted.  Remove from heat, set aside.
  5. Combine eggs and milk in a large bowl; whisk to blend.  Season with sea salt.
  6. pour egg mixture into skillet; cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently with rubber spatula for 6-9 minutes , or until egg mixture has set on the bottom and begins to set on the top.
  7. Place skillet in oven.  Broil for 3-4 minutes, or until lightly browned and fluffy.
  8. Cute into 6 servings and garnish with parsley.

I made two batches so we had plenty in our busy mornings.  I would keep up to 2 - 3 days sealed in air tight container in fridge.  Can be heated up the next morning :)

Let me know if you liked this recipe and share if you think someone else would enjoy too.

Prep for Hammer & Chisel

eeeeeeekk!!!  LETS DO THIS!!!

I grabbed the Hammer & Chisel Program when it was just released back in early December and I am SO ready to start this! So many Christmas goodies, dinners, drinks and treats !!  Fresh new year and fresh new 60 day program to take us into the summer.  Time to kick butt with this and whip this booty back into gear!

I've heard personally from some others in our company who were part of the test group before this program was released to the public and here are their results.

Nothing like opening a fresh new program and reading all the material to get you excited.  I KNOW this program will give people amazing results.  I volunteer to be your test dummy and show you what this can do!

I know that after all the cheats and treats I have had this past month, I am ready to really zone in on my nutrition.  I want to wipe the slate clean and give this 100%.  With past programs, I have noticed that my body really doesn't not change unless I am completely on par with my nutrition so here's to 60 days of fueling my body the very best way I can.

NUTRITION - I have sat down, read over the nutrition plan completely.  Right at the beginning of the book there is the nutrition plan quiz.  You know that's the most important part of this whole thing if they put it right at the beginning.  So I sat down and did the quiz.  It asks about your lifestyle, current weight, goal and then you find out from that calculation which nutrition plan you need to follow for your goals.

I will be following PLAN A for the next 60 days, and I have shared the nutrition plan in a link below.  I will also let you know how this program is each week with a review and following weeks'  nutrition plan if you'd like to follow along.

My husband will be doing this along with me he is also super pumped about this.  He was feeling really good with BodyBeast but the holidays have taken us off track, like so many of us!

I have included my week #1 nutrition plan here.  When I don't plan, I fail - and usually fail miserably!!  It's because when I don't have a plan, I grab quick fixes.  And quick fixes lead me into trouble.  So here is my plan to succeed:::

SCHEDULE - so like all programs, there is a specific schedule to follow.  This is important so that you give different muscles a break and that you get enough weight lifting vs. cardio sessions in a week.  I will include the schedule with my meal plans so you can follow along as well with which one we're doing.

EQUIPMENT -  Some things you will need are:
  • bench or stability ball
  • weights (heavy and light)
  • resistance band
  • chin up bar or bands with door attachment
  • beach body core mat or yoga mat
  • chin up max (if needed)

AND those beautiful before and after photos and measurements

A crucial part of all this.  (also the least fun)
Taking those photos today was sad to be honest.  It was hard to see the bloat back from over the holidays.  BUT these are going to be my breakup photos and measurements.  It's giving me that much more of a reason to stick to this.
The photos aren't fun to do especially after falling off track for but I find that the photos and the measurements really keep me motivated!

From experience, some weeks I wouldn't notice change on the scale at all, but then I would take photos and measurements and I could compare and could SEE that yes, this was working.  If I didn't take those starting point measurements or photos I would get frustrated and give up, but at least this way I can see that yes, my body is changing and it IS working.  It's always important to see how far you've come.  It will be your starting point, not ending point.

I'm not ready to post those before photos or stats just yet.  Maybe by week #2.  But I've got them tucked away for later.

Would you like to join me?  I have an exclusive test group open for anyone that wants to do this fantastic program along with us.  If you would like more information on how you can get your program and nutrition plan, feel free to find me on FACEBOOK and give me a message.  We can do this together!

Favourite Photo Apps~

This year I have discovered the fun of
PHOTO APPS!!!!

I have a love for these apps to really make the photos I take on my phone fun, eye catching and it's sort of like scrap booking on social media ;)

After posting my fitness photos and kids photos online, many of you have been asking which app I use to create them.   Happy New Years -> I'm going to share them below!

I don't just use one app I use several different ones so I've made a list of my favourites here so you can have fun with your photos of your kids, pets, hubby and make those photos extra special, fun, and eye-catching!

COVER PHOTO - here is where you can create a custom cover photo banner for your Facebook profile page.  It comes in the exact size you need to fit that spot and then you can add different photos in different layouts.
What It looks like on App Store

PIC COLLAGE - This is where you can make fun collages.  You can create a fun collage from a special event or put two photos side by side for comparison.  Add words, change up the background, and add text and stickers too

WORD SWAG - I just found this one.  I LOVE it!!  Type in your words or quotes and it mixes and matches it for you to create wicked Photo Quotes!  LOVE LOVE!!!

PICPLAYPOST - I use this app for making photo/video posts.  Pick your layout and photos and add in a quote and you've got an eye-catching post ready for social media.  This you can have a lot of fun with!

PHOTOFY - This one is the one I use the most!  Almost daily!!  It's super easy to use and really makes photos and posts eye-catching.  AND it already has art work in there already so it super easy to just upload your photo and add some cool text and sayings.  You can also play around with filters, mirroring images, adding in text and art work.  VERY easy to use and quick!

So there you have it!  My FAVOURITE apps to make your photos FUN!! I hope you have as much fun with these apps this year as I have.

Do you have an app that you are loving?  Comment below and share them with us.

Have a Healthy and Happy New Years guys!!
